MEXICAN AMERICAN VETERANS MEMORIAL
Location: 10th and N - Sacramento, California
This Memorial was dedicated by the American Mexican War Mothers September 16, 1975. It was dedicated (as the plaque indicates) in memory of the American Servicemen of Hispanic Descent and all others who sacrificed their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy. Ceremonies to honor Mexican-American service men and women are regularly held here on Veteran holidays.
A bill was passed by the State Legislature in 1993 to complete the beautification of the grounds surrounding the Memorial, however, these improvements have yet to be acted upon. Members of a commission are to be appointed by the Governor, Senate and Assembly to oversee the completion of this project and enable funds to be collected.
In November a banquet was held honoring Latino Veterans and to promote the completion of the Memorial. You can see photos and detail of the event here.
